Partners in Education

Partners in Education connects the business community to the classroom, providing interactive opportunities for students to see the relevance and application of the curriculum they are learning to the business world.

CONNECT (C) - brings industry/businesses to the classroom

ENGAGE (E) - students are challenged and to find connections between the classroom and careers

IMMERSE (I) - students are placed into experiences where they can use what they have learned in the classroom in real world working experiences.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Speakers

Guest Speakers (C), Grades K-12 - Speak with students in person or virtually regarding curriculum topics related to their business and industry

Curriculum Support (C,E,I) - Share company/industry insights to support alignment of academic content to real-world knowledge and skills needed. Provide information about hiring needs, skills and competency profiles, and job progression opportunities to inform talent and workforce development efforts. Provide subject matter experts to assist with content delivery in the classroom.

Career Fair (C), Grades K-12 - Multiple business partners come and provide students with an opportunity to learn about a variety of careers.

Job Fair (C), Grades K-12 - Multiple business partners come and provide students with prospective employable opportunities.

Feedback Panel (C) - As students complete a project, students present their finished work to a panel for feedback.

Lesson/Activity Specific Engagement (C,E,I) - Share business/industry insights to support academic content related to real world learning and skills necessary for the world of work.

Panel Discussion (C) - Business partners connected to a particular topic come together to discuss the topic in front of a group of students.

Collaborate

Client Connected Projects(I), Grades 9-12 - Provide authentic projects for students to complete individually or in small groups that allows for coaching and engagement with professionals along the way.

Project Mentor(E,I), Grades 6-12- Engage with students in-person or digitally (e.g. Zoom, email) either 1:1 or in small group settings to share information, build relationships and answer questions about careers, the workplace, and essential skills of professionals

Site Visits

Field Trips K-12 (C,E) - A trip made by students to learn something first hand.

Career Path Industry Visits 9-12 (C,E) - Students who are interested in a specific career path visit a specific business partner to gain a deeper understanding of a specific career.

Career Exploration Field Trips K-12 (C,E) - Business partners host a group of students to introduce students to their business/industry.

Hosted Classroom 6-12 (E, I) - Host courses, learning or professional events, and/or provide real-world equipment or other resources needed to support authentic learning environments.

Job Shadows 9-12 (E,I) - Engage with students 1:1 or in small groups to give real-time insights into what a ‘day in the life’ in a career or within a company involves.

Teacher Externships (any teacher) (I) - Engage with educators 1:1 or in small groups to show what a ‘day in the life’ of a job or industry involves.

Internships/Apprenticeships

Marketing Internship--Retail and customer service positions

Supervised Business Experience (SBE)--Professional business, office, and technology positions

Cooperative Career Education (CCE)-- Skilled trades and human services positions

Internship in STEM Careers – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math advanced academic positions; includes Cerner Scholars

Registered Youth Apprenticeship
